ABSTRACT

Primary leaf-less meristem explants of Brazilian soybean cultivar "IAS-5" were excised and cultured in an organic-enriched culture establislunent medium. Ninety-five percent of the explants developed into microscopic-sized, three-budded structures within two weeks. Further incubation in the bud development medium led to the production of macroscopic multiple-budded structures in 81.9% of the cultures. The larger multiple-budded clusters were subdivided and the bud number subsequently increased in a bud multiplication medium. Some of these buds elongated and developed into plantlets which were then transplanted into soil.

Keywords: Meristem culture; Soybean.
