ABSTRACT
A cytogenetic study involving chromosomal number, meiotic behavior, meiotic index and pollen grain fertility was made of the native species Vigna luteola (Jacq.) Benth., Vigna adenantha (G.F. Meyer) Maréchal, Mascherpa & Stainer and Vigna longifolia (Bentham) Verdcourt. The three species were diploid (2n-2x - 22) and had an essentially regular meiotic behavior, with a prevalence of cells with eleven bivalents at diakinesis and metaphase I, a high meiotic index (96 to 99%) and high frequency of fertile pollen grains (92 to 98%).
Keywords: Cytogenetic; Leguminosae.
