ABSTRACT

Six specimens of Saguinus midas niidas from the banks of the Jari river (Brazilian Amazon region) were studied cytogenetically. All animals had 2n = 46. One animal showed a difference in the C-banding pattern of chromosome 9. The banding patterns obtained were compared with those previously reported for S. m. niger. The two species only differ by a variation in the amount of constitutive heterochromatin, which is greater in pair 7 and in chromosome Y of S.m. midas.

Keywords: Cytogenetic; Saguinus midas midas; Primata; Brazilian Amazon; karyotype; Saguinus midas niger.
