ABSTRACT
Cytogenetic data obtained from Brazilian specimens of 33 species of the order Chiroptera, belonging to the families Noctilionidae, Phyllostomidae, Vespertilionidae and Molossidae are summarized. These species represent about 25% of the known Brazilian bat fauna. Considering that karyotypic studies could provide interesting information for clarifying systematic aspects and phylogenetic relationships this progress report is presented in order to emphasize the need for further studies on this subject.
Keywords: Cytogenetic; Brazilian bats.
