ABSTRACT

The karyotype structure of ten species of South American curimatid fishes are described. Although the NOR dislocation show differences in the internal structure of the chromosomes, the karyotype macrostructure is quite stable, revealing a low chromosome evolution rate. The identification of the NORs in the distinct species permit us to make some considerations about their relationships

Keywords: chromosome; evolution; phylogenetic; neotropical; characiformes; Curimatidae.
