ABSTRACT

Phenotypic, genotypic, and environmental correlations were estimated for all possible pairs among nine traits of sweet pepper. Path analysis was also performed. Two populations were studied, one formed by six parental cultivars and another formed by 15 F1 hybrids that resulted from a diallel cross of the six parental cultivars. Estimates of genotypic correlation in this hybrid population were different from those for the parental population in magnitude and sign, showing the importance of non-additive gene effects. Path analysis showed that size of fruit, expressed as length and width, had a direct and positive effect on total fruit yield in both populations. Total number of fruit, number of days to flowering and plant height had different effects on total fruit yield because they presented direct positive effects in parental population and negative effects in the hybrid population.
