ABSTRACT
Seasonal collections of two natural populations of Drosophila griseolineata were made for a total of eight samples, each collected on three different baits. Both populations showed numerical fluctuations over the various seasons of the year, with collections performed at both sites during the same season showing sometimes coincident and sometimes discrepant data concerning the relative frequency of D. griseolineata in relation to the remaining species in the genus.
Two alleles for the Est-3 locus (one of them having no esterase activity) were detected by horizontal polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis at frequencies ranging from 0.4564 to 1.0000.
Comparison of the different , samples indicated microspatial, spatial and temporal heterogeneity, suggesting that both macroclimatic and microclimatic variables acting on available food sources significantly contribute to the maintenance of the polymorphism detected in the present study.
Keywords: environmental; variation; Est-3; null allele; Drosophila griseolineata.
