Correlações genotipica, fenotipica e de ambiente entre caracteres de fruto e planta de pimentão (Capsicum annuum L) (Genotypic, phenotypic and environmental correlations among fruit and plant traits in sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L))*

ABSTRACT
Genotypic, phenotypic and environmental correlations were estimated for all possible pairs among eleven characters of sweet pepper studied in six cultivars and their fifteen possible F. hybrids (reciprocals excluded) at Piracicaba-SP, Brazil, in 1985. Genotypic correlations were observed between total yield per plant and early yield/weight (+0.950), average weight per sampled fruit (+0.663), fruit length (+0.749) and length/width ratio (+0.520). Total yield was not correlated with total number of fruit per plant, fruit width, or plant height. Total number of fruit per plant was negatively correlated with average weight of sampled fruit (-0.520), fruit width (-0.873), and number of locules per fruit (-0.915). These last three characters were positively correlated with each other. Number of fruit is an important yield component mainly in cultivars with small fruits.
