ABSTRACT

The objective of the present study was to estimate general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) in a diallel cross of six sweet pepper cultivars using method 2, mixed model B of Griffing. GCA (additive inheritance) was more important than SCA for total number of fruit per plant, average weight per sampled fruit, actual average weight per fruit, length/ width ratio, number of locules per fruit, and fruit length and width. SCA was more important than GCA for total yield per plant, early yield/weight, plant height and number of days to flowering. Parental cultivars BGH 18 and 'Amarelo Italiano' showed the best GCA for total yield per plant.
