ABSTRACT
The genetic polymorphisme of acid phosphatase, esterase D and glyoxalase I were investigated in a sample of 363 adult Caucasoids living in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The gene frequencies observed were: ACP*A: 0.27; ACP*C: 0.03; ESD*2: 0.13: and GLO*l: 0.42. A rare allele (ESD*3) was found in one individual and his son. The average heterozygosity (H) for 13 and 20 electrophoretic systems was estimated for the population of Porto Alegre, using the data of this and previous studies. The levels observed are of the same order of magnitude as those found in North America, despite the higher degree of race admixture observed among Brazilians.
Keywords: Esd; Acp; Glo; frequencies; heterozygosity; levels.
