ABSTRACT
The karyotype of Wiedomys pyrrohorhinos (Wied, 1821), the only living member of the tribe Wiedomyini of the Neotropical Cricetids, is described (2n = 62, FN = 86) with data on banding patterns (G and C bands) and nucleolus organizer regions (NORs). This information contributes to the study of the phylogenetic interrelationships of this species within the Sigmodontinae.
Keywords: chromosomes; cricetid; rodent; Wiedomys pyrrhorhinos .
