ABSTRACT

The response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes to take-all (Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici) disease is of interest both to grain growers in terms of increased yields and to plant breeders, who could then manipulate heritable traits to develop cultivars with greater resistance to take-all. The objective of the present study was to identify morphological and physiological traits that affect grain yield in nine different wheat genotypes.
The cultivars were submitted to artificial inoculation with take-all disease (one inoculated oat grain/one wheat seed) in 1985. The phenotypic changes observed in the plants showed that all tested genotypes were susceptible to the disease, but that their levels of tolerance were different.
