Take-all disease in wheat (Triticum aestivum l.): phenotypic changes due to seed size and inoculum concentration

ABSTRACT
Experiments in growth chambers and under field conditions were conducted in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 1984-1985 to test the reaction of some traits of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to take-all disease caused by the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici.
Seed size and inoculum concentrations affected the magnitude of response of the host plant. The results indicated that some wheat traits have the potential to reveal the level of take-all tolerance and therefore could be used as selection parameters in breeding programs for resistance to take-all disease.
