ABSTRACT
The diploid chromosome number in the scimitar-horn oryx is 2n = 58. The karyotype consists of acrocentric chromosomes except for a pair of autosomes which is subtelocentric. The X is a large acrocentric and the Y is the smallest-sized acrocentric chromosome. Ag-NOR and R-banding patterns revealed that chromosome Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 have NOR in their telomeric ends and that the subtelocentric chromosome is the result of a Robertsonian translocation between chromosomes 1 and 25 of cattle.
Keywords: karyotypic; scimitar-horned; oryx; Oryx tao .
