ABSTRACT

The ABO, MNSs and Rh (including the Du variant) blood group systems were studied in a sample of 1259 Brazilian recruits (941 Caucasoids and 318 Blacks) from Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The following gene frequencies were estimated for Caucasoids: A 1 = 0.1808, A2 = 0.0543, B = 0.0698, 0 = 0.6951; M = 0.5627, N = 0.4373; R° = 0.1094, R1 = 0.4179, R2 = 0.1515, Rz = 0.0052, r = 0.2975, r' = 0.0155, r" = 0.0030. Among Blacks these gene frequencies were as follows: A1 = 0.1384, A 2 = 0.0547, B = 0.0854, 0 = 0.7215; M = 0,5597, N = 0.4403; R° = 0.2781, R1 = 0.2917, R2 = 0.1523, Rz = 0.0049, r = 0.2676, r' = 0.0054. The frequency of the Du gene was estimated to be 0.0063 among Caucasoids and 0.0055 among Blacks.

Keywords: gene frequencies; ABO; MNSs; Rh.
