ABSTRACT

The electrophoretic patterns of acid phosphatase, esterase D, malate dehydrogenase and carbonic anhydrase 2 were analyzed in 89 monkeys of the sub-species Chiropotes satanas satanas (Cebidae, Platyrrhini) from the Brazilian Amazonian region. Acid phosphatase and esterase D showed polymorphic variation and the distribution of genotypes was as expected on the basis of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for both systems. Malate dehydrogenase and carbonic anhydrase 2 were shown to be monomorphic in this species.

Keywords: Chiropotes satanas satanas; amazonian region.
